We are indignant over the death of political prisoner Bernabe Ocasla, 66, who died yesterday at the Jose Reyes Memorial Hospital, a few days after suffering a stroke and being comatose. A detainee at the Manila City Jail, he is the second political prisoner to die this year while in detention. The first was NDF consultant Ed Serrano who died in January. We ask the GRP Panel: Why is it that after the second round of peace talks, the number of released detainees has been pegged at ZERO? Why have there been no releases on humanitarian grounds? Why is there still no amnesty proclamation? How many more must die in jail before the government acts? The release of political prisoners is a matter of justice and a matter of obligation for the GRP. It is a measure of sincerity in the peace talks. It is a commitment given by no less than Duterte himself. Aabutin pa ba sila ng Pasko sa kulungan?
